I unexpectedly found myself with a few hours to kill in the middle of the afternoon and was only about 30 minutes or so away from Spiegel Grove, the site of President Rutherford B. Hays’ estate, now know as The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center.  Hayes served one term and didn’t run for re-election.  He could hardly be blamed after the contentious 1876 election that brought him into office.  I highly recommend the book Fraud of the Century by Roy Morris Jr. which does a great job of narrating the events that led up to and took place in the aftermath of that election.    I didn’t completely agree with all of the authors sentiments, but it was a good read nonetheless.   Lets just say it makes the Bush vs. Gore 2000 election look very civil and well run by comparison.
