This monument is located in Forest Home Cemetery, just outside of Chicago in Forest Park, Illinois.  I visited the actual site of the Haymarket Massacre in October 2004.  The events surrounding the massacre are still highly controversial.   This monument commemorates the workers who were convicted of the bombing, in a trial that by all accounts wasn’t fair.  4 were hanged and 1 committed suicide before the execution could be carried out.   Many others lost their lives in the bombing and the carnage that took place in the aftermath.   What were they all protesting about?  They wanted an 8 hour workday.
